Helping busy people create stunning food at home, still fast and still delicious.

Today with a spicy touch:

Breakfast

A tangy fruit salad for breakfast with clean fresh zingy flavours.

Gordon introduces an unusual idea, in fact he has two, a fruit salad for breakfast and making the salad spicy.

In the salad Gordon uses a finely chopped chilli, tamarind and palm sugar, plus Gordon’s sercet weapon lime. All rounded of with roasted nuts and chopped pineapple.

2. Lunch

Clam noodle soup and banana Fritters

Lemongrass is the basis of this dish and is used a lot in Thai cookery.

Noodle soups quite varied, complete food.. in Asia with dumplings.

3. Dinner

Jack lends a hand as Gordon instructs how to make spicy chicken wings.

Jamie Oliver Save with Jamie recipes Money saving meals TV episodes

Cookbook review: Jamie Oliver’s Money saving meals new book Save with Jamie Shop smart, Cook clever, Waste less published 29 August 2013.

Jamie’s Comfort Food           Jamie, Jamie, Jamie!

The new cookbook includes 120 money saving meals.

Jamie’s new cookbook has 290 pages, 120 recipes and hopes to guide us to cheaper, more nutritious but immensely enjoyable food. In what is a great new series – to see the new cookbook and offers check out Save with Jamie: Shop Smart, Cook Clever, Waste Less

Jamie begins with his take on why he decided to develop the key concept – saving or to be more accurate – being intelligent when it comes to food and cooking. Make the best of ingredients, generate very tasty food by following well known tricks of the trade and plan, save – be efficient in the kitchen.

He says that it was the public who asked for this book and in times of austerity I suppose it is very much the desire of all of us to be careful with what we spend. So a sensible approach to the state of things, careful use of our money, time etc.

The subtitle says it all: Shop smart, cook clever, waste less – the main consideration is knowing how to cook and being able to plan ahead. Both come with practise and it is Jamie’s enthusiasm that will encourage us all and also his great ability to help us achieve in a short time  – what it has taken years for Jamie and others to learn.

Hence the cookbook, suitable for all couples, families, single folks and students. I would suggest that students will find this book to be a must have!

Main contents include:

Introduction

  • Shopping smart
  • Veg
  • Chicken
  • Beef
  • Pork
  • Lamb
  • Fish
  • More recipes
  • Nutrition
  • Index including shop smart and waste less fast page references

The freezer and how to store food will play a big part in the way Jamie guides us to be ready to waste less. So we learn how to freeze food properly and the dangers of defrosting in the wrong way.

What basic staple foods we need how to buy and store them.

Shopping smart is also a key to buying food cheaply.

A list of kitchen tools is a necessity and is included.

Recipes include:

  • Salads, omelettes, potato pie, noodles, rotolo, frittata
  • Roast chicken, chicken stew, chowder, Chinese wrap, cannelloni
  • Roast brisket, beef tagline, pulled beef salad, stir-fried rice
  • Roast lamb, BBQ burritos, lamb koftas

An amazing variety of ingredients and wonderful recipes.

No wonder we, as a nation, have taken this amazing multi layered and multi-cultured food for our own. My gastronomic journey celebrates the best from the world of curry and dispenses with some of the myths – just the thought of flying to the Indian sub-continent to start filming is making my mouth water.”

What Katie Ate – Recipes and other bits and bobs by Katie Quinn Davies.
A fine collection of excellent food combinations and succulent recipes!! Recommended cookbook!!! Don’t miss it!!

Published 28 February 2013 by Collins.

Who is Katie Davies?

A good question. Have you heard of the blog, “What Katie Ate”? Katie Davies started out as a graphic designer, who developed (sorry) an interest in food photography. It was soon after this that the blog ‘What Katie Ate’ was born.

Though Katie was born in Dublin, Ireland she is a lucky lady being now based in Sydney, Australia!

This nicely produced book, has the unusual typeface of a typewriter – old style, however the images are wonderful and the food is enticing. The images could so with being printed glossy in my opinion – still a visual treat.

For further information, reviews and low cost offers try What Katie Ate: Recipes and Other Bits and Bobs in the UK.

Purchase options UK, old and new copies of the cookbook, What Katie Ate: Recipes and Other Bits and Bobs.

Contents:

  • Salads
  • Canapes & drinks
  • Dinners
  • Sides & sauces

  • Index

The tips and tricks guide us through using chocolate, chopping onions, alcohol, juicing lemons and limes.

Breakfasts include, banana, strawberry and ginger smoothies, home-made baked beans on toast, buttermilk crepes, breakfast muffins, baked eggs with potato, prosciutto and chilli.

Excellent recipes, absolutely brilliant!!

Lunches with prawns, soups, barbecued peppercorn beef fillet, Irish brown bread with smoked salmon, orecchievette with roast tomatoes….. amazing!

Salads have roasted pumpkin seed and watercress salad, chorizo and potato salad, pearl barley salad with harissa spiced chicken.

Canapes and drinks give us beef and pork sliders, apple ginger and cranberry vodka cocktails, crab cakes and pink mayonnaise… ahh!…..

Simply put, this is a class cookbook and you should really read more reviews than just this blog, check out what Amazon UK customers say about the new Katie Davis book, What Katie Ate.
