Sarah Wilson I quit Sugar

I Quit Sugar – your complete detox 8-week program and cookbook is the new book from the Australian journalist and television presenter – Sarah Wilson

So what is the reason for giving up sugar?

With what started out as an experiment that showed health benefits for the author Sarah Wilson, she decided to adopt a sugar free life style.

The sugar she is referring to is in fruit, sweets, chocolate and honey as well as what we find in our food and drink. It is essentially the sugar fructose in particular.

Add up all the sugar we each consume in a day and wow!

See if you can add up the sugar you consume daily in terms of teaspoons, it will surprise you! For Sarah it was 25 plus – not including the so called hidden sugar in things like tomato sauce and foods.

The way to quit can be sudden – stop nearly all sugar – or the consumption of sugar can be slowly reduced. Expect some effects though, withdrawal can be severe.

I know this from personal experience! Try it and see!

You will see weight reduction and perhaps experience more energy.

Some of the books available:

To undertake a change such as this needs care and attention, so take advice before you begin.

You will be replacing sugar with fats and other choices – so you will need to learn about what is best for your health.

A very interesting book and it can improve your heath, but also consider the 2 day diets for advice on how to achieve major health benefits.

Rick Stein’s India In search of the perfect curry – new cookbook recipes and video player links

Rick Stein’s India is the new excellent text on curries, written as only Rick can.
Subtitled – In Search of the perfect curry – Recipes from my Indian Odyssey.

Rick Stein sums up all that is special and sumptuous about curries and the Indian recipes he has encountered on his Indian curry Odyssey in this new and beautifully produced curry guide and cookbook. A journey through this exciting and colourful country, it is a sensual and stimulating experience.

We all love a good Curry – some just with onion and chicken, others with creamy sauce and crispy duck…. The variety of possibilities are almost endless  but Rick has – in his unique style – made sense of the complex world that is the Indian Curry.
So what is a good curry? Is it the aroma, the look, or the combination of all these with an expectation of a satisfying meal, that helps us forget about our problems and lifts us to a higher level.

To quote Rick :
‘Whenever I hear the word curry, I’m filled with a longing for spicy hot food with the fragrance of cumin, cloves and cinnamon. I see deep red colours from lots of Kashmiri chilli’s, tinged with a suggestion of yellow from turmeric. I think of the tandoor oven and slightly scorched naan shining with ghee and garlic. A bowl of dark dal, a green chutney of coriander and mint and a plate with a few sliced tomatoes, cucumbers and sliced onions. When Indians talk of food, they talk about their life. To understand this country you need to understand curry.’

In this adventure Rick discovers 120 recipes by visiting home cooks, street vendors and having had what must have been the experience of a lifetime.

Readers of this book if based in the UK or Ireland will have a concept of curry based on visits to various take away food houses. Perhaps Indian, Thai or Chinese. The first thing Rick helps us with is to see curry from the perspective of the Indian people.

It is not the same as we understand it, a curry is something that can refer to almost any food from the Indian subcontinent.

Rick Stein @Rick_Stein Mexico and California TV and Book September 2017

So where do we start? Rick sets out a number of food types in the book:

  • Dhaba
  • Sabzi
  • Macchi
  • Murgh
  • Gosht
  • Meetha

By visiting various cities Rick samples curries of all types.

  • Punjab – Lamb curry
  • Mumbai – Pau bhaji
  • Amritsar – Butter chicken
  • Pondicherry – Prawn currry
  • Kolkata – Eggs in coconut masala
  • Jaipur – Tandoori dish

Follow the TV series on BBC player and see India in all its colourful glory.

And yes Rick does discover  his favourite curry recipe.

Who is Nigel Slater?

Nigel Slater is one of our best-loved food writers, and has written his second volume of the Kitchen Diaries – a beautiful and inspiring companion volume to his best selling Kitchen Diaries. His articles feature in the Observer Food Monthly and the Guardian. See Nigel Slater’s recipes in the Guardian.

The Kitchen Diaries II “For years now I have kept notebooks, with scribbled shopping lists and early drafts of recipes in them. These notes form the basis of this second volume of The Kitchen Diaries. More than a diary, this is a collection of small kitchen celebrations, be it a casual, beer-fuelled supper of warm flatbreads with pieces of grilled lamb scattered with toasted pine kernels and blood-red pomegranate seeds or a quiet moment contemplating a bowl of soup and a loaf of bread.”

About : A Kitchen Chronicle. My latest book and the second volume of The Kitchen Diaries.

As you might expect from the title, this is a very personal book, written and photographed in my own kitchen. Jamie Oliver Jamie’s 15-minute meals recipes – What is in the book?

Jamie’s 15-minute meals: Delicious, Nutritious, Super-Fast Food
by Jamie Oliver

The New TV series has now started get up to date with the recipes and videos at Jamie’s 15 Minute Meals Jamie Oliver watch tv episodes 1 – 40 recipes full guide updated.

Jamie’s new cookbook has been published and accompanies a new series on Channel 4. It will no doubt be very popular and head to the top of the book sales lists. Additional reviews of Jamie’s new cook book are avaviable at Jamies 15 minute meals and an information and book page at Jamie Oliver information and cook books

So what is in the new book?

A fine set of recipes, based on the unlikely concept that we can prepare meals in 15 minutes. It is all a bit rushed, but it is possible.

In the new cookbook,  Jamie has limited photos of each recipe and a short guide to each recipe to ensure extra fast cooking.

An introduction outlines the 15-minute philosophy – how Jamie set about creating the concept. The average cost and average price of each meal. Based on what we need to eat at each meal, getting the balance just right in terms of carbs, protein and fat.

  • How to serve food, what dishes, plates, platters etc.
  • How to cook food, its preparation and the equipment required.
  • The set up in the kitchen and the concept of a pantry, new for some.

Then to the recipes, based on the basics:

  • meats
  • chicken
  • beef
  • pork
  • lamb
  • fish
