Zanna Van Dijk has come up with the concept of making us strong, by exercise and eating with balance as the core concept.

Book Content:

There are three sections in Zanna’s book:

MOVE, NOURISH and THRIVE

MOVE:

Considers how best to move, through the most efficient forms of exercise.

Resistance, HIT and preparation, recovery.

A comprehensive list of 80 exercise, with sets and reps to target each of the key body areas, with beginner and advanced sections.

NOURISH:

A selection of 40 recipes for the main meals, with sensible, healthy balanced ingredients.

What food is, the need for balance in meals and a number of tips and tricks to enable healthier choices.

THRIVE:

Reflection and self-evaluation. 

A very good guide to health, exercise and food to improve your body.

Though as with all books of this type, ask your Doctor for advice before starting any new regime – but with numerous beginners sections – the book is a gentle start to exercise that can transform our physical and mental health.

I noticed James Wong’s @BotanyGeek book in Sainsbury’s and bought it immediately.

How to prepare blueberries so they release more health giving nutrients. How to prepare Garlic – this book is a gem. A must have in my opinion. Recent price is £6.99 from Amazon.

The range of foods we have available – vegetables, fruit, can all be transformed if we now how. How to store, or cook a particular ingredient. How to combine foods for maximum effect. Supercharge the nutrients inside the food to make them Bio-available for the maximum use in our bodies.

The last program in the series 4 of 4, Thursday the 23 August 2012 at 20.00 on BBC2 repeated during January 2013.

To night the guys redesign party treats and get the low down on how well they have managed to lose weight. Great series and really thought provoking!

Recipes:

The food that we enjoy, but lighter – less calories. Keep the good stuff but loose the fat!
Food and entertaining go together. So the challenge tonight is to redo party food.

The guys do a weigh in and find they are almost there….

And then the pampering…in a seaweed bath… unreal… a massage and spa treatment…brilliant!!!

The amazing ending is with Si and Dave getting their new weight confirmed almost 3 stone of a loss each. The Doc is very pleased and when they visit the dietician – she has the lost weight as lard on two trays. They guys try carrying these about for a while to see what it was like when they started at their original weight.

It is a wake up call and while they guys make it funny and enjoyable watching, we all should consider what they have managed and if we are overweight – to consider getting a plan in place to reduce our size.

Recent research seems to indicate that a lower intake of calories helps prolong life and maintain good health. So good health to all and keep the calories down.
